Some days ago, a 25 years old pregnant girl and her 9 month old fetus, was killed by an overdose of morphine - given to her by a doctor!The small family, consisting of the childs father and a would-be older brother, was ripped apart by those we should be able to trust the most.The issue - a simple case of gall stone - ended up by killing half the family.As you, trusted reader, may already know, I am a father of a 2 year old daughter myself. And I must admit, as I read the interview with the widdow father and saw the picture of the torn-up family, I cried inside. I cannot imagine how he and his little son must feel now, or even how they will cope with this fact.I’m sorry on the behalf of the healthcare system. Truly.Anders, I sincerely hope that you will pull it through - for you, your son and not least for your wife and unborn child.

According to danish news, an entire youth on a local danish island (actually one of the bigger ones) are scared stiff by a text message, stating the following:

“Hello. My name is Sammy. I have no face, but tonight I will haunt your room and stare at you!”

This has, obviously, scared the young people on Funen so badly, even the local authorities have sent out directions for the young peoples parents to talk to them about the message.

But come on .. I mean .. A ghost, that travels by text messages?

I know for one, that young people are gullable and will believe anything. I know for one, what it’s like to have a haunted apartment. But I also know, that these messages are created by, probably young, boys who plans on having a good time .. and they certainly do, by judging from the news paper headlines.

Anywho, my advise: Think. Use the insides of your brains, for a change.

Ok, I reckon that this is a subject that arises every once in a while. And this morning, another article in the series of “Why you should keep you kids locked up”.

“Be careful of children playing in old tree houses. A tree house must be this and this big, build with such and such matrials, and the entries should be no smaller that this and that.”

A danish “playground consultant”got his 15 minutes of fame today, by writing an article on tree houses. There’s nothing wrong with that - of course, we should not make our kids kill themselves while playing in the yard, but I mean, come on! I made it through the 70ies and 80ies, and I came out somewhat ok? (Well, that’s wrong with me _definitely_ has nothing to do with tree houses or playgrounds or the like)

But I mean .. If I want to build a tree house for my dayghter - not that we have any trees suitable for build tree houses - I won’t go around measuring up the entries, I’m not making sure the boards are treated with a nonflameable, toxic icky goo and I won’t put up safety harnesses for her and her friends to wear when they use it.

A tree house - or any playhouse - is about having fun. And childhood is about having fun - and a bit about getting bruised, so life won’t kill you when you find yourself a grown up. And those two things really mesh well. Build the house with common sense, and let the kids do the rest. They _will_ eventually get bruised (if not, I fear for how they will turn out as adults..), they _will_ eventually break a bone, they _will_ cry and they _will_ call for mommy or daddy.

Let’s not pad them with bubblewrap andportable airbags and whatnot.

Let them have their fun.

And their bruises.

Oh my, has it really been that long?

About bloody time I get back to work, then.

A brief update: a couple of months ago, by work mate decided to quit. So, since then, I’ve been somewhat alone at maintaining and developing the front of two heavily visited and evolving websites. So, basically, I’ve been busted most of the time - leading to endless, pointless arguments with the missus over more or less irrelevant things.

For that, sweety, I’m sorry. Truly.

So, here’s the deal: I need more rest - kinda hard when you have a two-year old über-happy, hyperactive daughter crawling all over you from she wakes up at around 6am (on a good day) till she’s back in bed at around 8pm - but I’m gonna try.

From now on, I’ll do what I can to be in bed no later than 11pm. If somethings interesting’s on tv, TiVo can handle it. The website with corresponding CMS will have to be worked upon in the hours between 8pm and 10.30pm .. The last 30 minutes will be used to wind down, have a cup of Earl Grey and dig a little tv or web browsing.

Other projects, like a music score for my niece and friends song competition song, will have to be meshed in during the hours where I don’t do the website. And should another website come up, it’ll be done the right way: You pay me, I build your website. EoD.

So, this is the plan for the next few weeks or months or whatever.. “For now” is probably a better description.

I’ll let you know how I progress..

Review: “300″

Those of us who didn’t sleep through “classical studies” in high school, probably already know about the Battle of Thermopylae. As my high school grade sheet as my witness (I barely passed classical studies), I did not really know of this battle untill I read about the movie - this fact alone is making me only inches from being able to call myself a true american.. *sigh* Anyway, the long of the short of it is this: Persian king, Xerxes, threatens Spartan king, Leonidas, to give up the freedom of the Spartans, in exchange for total power over Greece. Leonidas, being a noble, yet war-mongering patriot, naturally, declines. (Otherwise the movie would have been rather short). And so it comes to pass, that - without the Counsils approval - Leonidas gathers 300 of his best warriors, and goes to war - or to defend themselves against the evil tyran. (No, you did not see this on CNN some 5 years ago.. Yes, I can see the similarilities..) Most of the movie then depicts the battle as it supposedly took places - under heavy influence from writer Frank Miller, whose graphic comics laid the foundation for the movie.

So, how is this movie, then.

It’s quite good, actually, though I certainly see why the Iranians have banned the movie - this is an american patriotic piece of work, and it really shines through.. Disregarding the “good vs. evil equals christian US vs. the muslim axis of evil” aspects, the movie still is quite a hoot. Supposedly haven been shot entirely inside a warehouse in Canada (could someone confirm this?), the movie relies heavily on digital effect. But - as a danish movie critic duely noted - this is completely overshadowed by the picturisque cinematography and convincing effect. Throughout the movie, we see various scenes caught in wide-angle and slow-motion, making them not unlike paintings from the neo-classical era - or drawings in a comic book. Having not read the original work by Frank Miller, I’ m still pretty certain that these sequences does his original artwork justice.

The battle-scenes are not for the timid. Several times, I thought that this was kinda like “Gladiator meets Braveheart”: Immense, in-your-face battle with sweat, blood and severed limbs, in real- and slow-motion - and it just keeps going on and on .. and on.. And the movies goers loved it and ate it all up! Maybe because of the very special filter and special effects that has been laid upon the shots, maybe because - apart from a few too fantastic persian “monsters” - the story is actually quite believable, with believable characters: The patriotic spartan king, his faithful and loving queen, the supportive and sacrificing captain of the guard, the treacherous freak and the blasphemous, bloated, selfabsorbed persian king. The characters are classical, clearly defined, and - alright I’ll give it to them - seen from a western point of view, this could in some manner depict what is going on in the world today. (Although I would never, ever give George W. Bush the credit for being as cunning, smart and - most of all - honorous, as Spartan king Leonidas.)

Alltogether, the movie is definitely worth watching, when prepared for the long battle sequences. The movie never really slows down for real, though some room has been made in it for politics. However, this it kept at an absolute “only this is neede and no more”-basis, and it becomes the movie well.

For those of you high school slackers who, like me, slept through classical studies, I won’t give away the ending of the movie. All I can say is, that in a time of sequals, prequals, spinoffs and remakes, it was really, really worth every penny!

Also, another very interesting video, is canadian singer Alanis Morissetttes new video, a clever reproduction of Black Eyed Peas’”My Humps”. Not only does Alanis once again show her talents as a very, very apt singer and artist, she has also managed to divide the listeners/watchers into three groups with this video: Those who love it for the irony, those who hate her for mocking the “stars” of BEP, and finally those who just don’t get it

I finally took the step. I’ve been pondering over this for some 5 years now, reading - well, maybe not everything - but a-l-o-t about boat building, fiberglassing, epoxies, marine motoring, etc.

A couple of days ago, I received a set of study plans for the boat I’ve been longing to build: The Bo-Jest from Glen-L!

This is close to what I want! :)

Having looked at these pages for the last couple of days, I’ve now made up my mind: I’ve ordered the plans, and I’m going to do this!

Okok, so the wife had an objection to having a huge tent in the back of the garden and thinks I won’t ever finish the boat, but I did what any other man would do: I put my foot down, drew a line in the sand, said “I’ve had it with these motherf*ckin’ snakes of this mother*ckin’ plane!” and told her: I’m gonna build it anyway!

Of course, I’ll respect her wishes about the ugly work tent, so I’ll have to figure something out, come the day the frames are finished. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Plans ordered, step one is taken! If you were wondering, these are the waters I’m primarily going to rule: Køge Bugt.

JSF expand/collapse all on DataTable w. DetailStamp

I work on a solution using, among other technologies, JSF, specifically Apache MyFaces with Tomahawk 1.1.3. This gave me a 3-day headache, as I had to solve the problem: Expand and Collapse All functionality on a DataTable with DetailStamp.

So, having rummaged through the web for several hours each day, I finally ended up with a note on a mailing list: ‘Why don’t you do it yourself?’. So, I did. And what I came up with is something like this:

1) Bind your datatable to the backing bean associated with the list view you are working on. This requires two things:
Your<t:datatable>-tag should include a binding=”#{listBean.dataTable}” parameter. Your list bean should provide the following:

private HtmlDataTable dataTable; public void setDataTable( HtmlDataTable dataTable ) { this.dataTable = dataTable; } public HtmlDataTable getDataTable() { return dataTable; }

This provides access to a dataTable-variable, which allows the <t:dataTable> to bind to the list bean.

2) Add the expandAll/collapseAll methods to the list bean. For the sake of usability, both methods are provided here:

3) Finally, it would be nice, if we were able to check wether all rows are expanded or collapsed:

This is really it! Cannot believe they left it out of Tomahawk 1.1.3. (Rumors has it that some of these functions should be available in Tomahawk 1.1.4+ - but this works just as fine :))

On the page containing the <t:dataTable>, you can provide the following code to do an expand/collapse all function:
